Bella Trattoria inspection report
The food was in a word, fantastic! ...We ordered la polenta di bella and carpaccio for appetizers. The polenta was luscious, light & flavorful with shitake mushrooms which were bursting with flavor and a gorgonzola sauce that reminded me of a light wine reduction. It melted in our mouths and we were oohing and aahing until the last bite. The carpaccio was venison and a great representation of the dish although not quite as delectable as the polenta di bella... Bella is a treat to discover, and delight to revisit. They truly know how to cook pasta, and prepare fantastic sauces (my wife insists on the Penne in Pink Sauce everytime!). Gnocci is like nothing you have had before - light, and fluffy. One of the best Tiramisu outside of Europe. Knowledgable and friendly staff you are happy to help you choose from the decent wine selection. Better food, cheaper, and much less pretentious than anywhere in North Beach. This is one of the restaurants I take guests visiting SF. A great place for romantic evening (our one year anniversary) a suprise birthday party (she ordered the Penne in Pink, of course) or to impress the new inlaws (ravished creme brulee cups and wine glass sprawled across the nice large booth - everyone fully satisified). As with most Italian American venues - good for vegetarians.Just around the corner from the Plough and the Stars for a fully festive evening out!

Bella is a gem of a restaurant in the Richmond District. The Italian food such as the Calamari appetizer was nicely presented on a lettece cup and tasted good although a bit on the oily side. Salad is freshly prepared and their Gnocchi is very good. What I love about this restaurant is the wonderful service! Also, I have to mention that the bathroom is kept reliatively clean and the wall murals are interestingly warm and welcoming for both families and couples dining in.
